Picking up your car at Faro Airport

Faro is the main airport for the Algarve. Some rental companies have desks in the terminal’s arrivals area and others are a short shuttle ride away. Check your voucher for the meeting point.

Tolls in Portugal

Portugal uses electronic tolls on many motorways, with no booths to pay at. Rental companies usually offer a toll device (transponder) for a fee, which charges tolls you use automatically. Ask about it at pick-up, as paying tolls afterwards without one is awkward for visitors.

Driving in the Algarve

Portugal drives on the right. With a car you can reach Lagos and Ponta da Piedade, Sagres and the wild west coast, the old town of Tavira and inland villages like Monchique and Silves. Some beach car parks fill early in summer.
