Picking up your car at Dubai Airport

Several international and local rental companies have desks in the arrivals areas at Dubai International. Check which terminal your flight uses (Emirates flights use Terminal 3) and where your company’s desk is.

Salik tolls and driving rules

Dubai uses Salik electronic toll gates on main roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road. Rental cars carry a Salik tag, and the rental company charges you for each crossing, often with an admin fee. The UAE drives on the right, speed cameras are common and there is zero tolerance for drink-driving.

Licence requirements

Visitors from many countries can rent a car in Dubai with their home driving licence, while others need an International Driving Permit. Rules depend on your nationality and visa, so check with the rental company before you travel.
