How CarHireDeals works

  1. Tell us where and when

An airport, city or depot, plus your pick-up and drop-off dates and times.

  2. We line up every site

KAYAK and Expedia open with your trip filled in. Brokers and rental brands open in one click.

  3. Compare the real total

Check the same car class, insurance excess, fuel policy and mileage on each site.

  4. Book direct, no fees

You book with the site you choose. We never add a fee or take your payment.

Why compare car hire?

The same car on the same dates can cost very different amounts depending on where you book. Comparison sites and brokers buy from many suppliers at once, while the rental brands sometimes have member rates or offers of their own. CarHireDeals puts both in one place, so checking three or four sites takes a couple of minutes instead of an evening.

Whether you call it car hire or a rental car, the rules for getting a good deal are the same: compare like for like, check what is included and read the fuel and insurance terms before you pay.

Airport or local depot?

Airport pick-up is the most convenient after a flight, and airports have the biggest choice of brands and cars. But airport locations often add an airport or concession fee to the price. If you don’t need the car straight away, a city or neighbourhood depot can work out cheaper, especially for longer rentals.

What to check before you book

  • Insurance excess (deductible): how much you pay if the car is damaged, and whether to reduce it. See our excess insurance guide.
  • Fuel policy: “full to full” is usually the fairest. Pre-paid fuel can cost more if you return the car with fuel left.
  • Mileage: most rentals include unlimited mileage, but not all.
  • Deposit: most companies hold a deposit on a credit card in the main driver’s name.
  • Extra drivers, young drivers and one-way fees: these can add a lot to the total.

Yes. CarHireDeals is free to use and never adds a booking fee. You book directly with the site you choose.
Does CarHireDeals show live prices?

Which companies can I compare?
Comparison sites and brokers such as KAYAK, Expedia, Rentalcars.com, Discover Cars and Skyscanner, plus rental brands including Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, SIXT, Europcar, Budget, Alamo, National, Thrifty, Dollar and Green Motion. Availability depends on the country.
Is car hire the same as car rental?
Yes. “Car hire” is the usual term in the UK and Ireland, while “car rental” or “rental car” is used in the US. The booking process is the same.
